Andrea Sommese is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, holding a joint position between the Centre for Animal Nutrition and Welfare and the Clever Dog Lab. He completed his PhD in Animal Science at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague in 2021, following a Master’s in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Ferrara. His research sits at the intersection of animal cognition, welfare, and human–animal interaction, with a primary focus on dogs but extending to other companion animals, including cats and small exotic pets. He has published several peer-reviewed articles — including contributions to Current Biology and Scientific Reports — and is co-author of a forthcoming book chapter on methods in dog cognition and behaviour research for CAB International. Beyond his research, he is an active member of the ManyDogs consortium and a committed science communicator whose work has been featured across international television, radio, and print media.
